entering or removing a pin to lock the bucket in.
This is commonly referred to as a manual “pin-puller” coupler –
where the front of the coupler is an open slot that you can hook on
a bucket, and the rear is a dedicated pin hole that you fix you
attachment to. This retains the breakout force while still
improving your efficiency.
These are generally significantly cheaper than Mechanical or fully
Hydraulic Quick Couplers while still offering an increase in
efficiency, but you're still working with adding and removing pins
to swap attachments out.
You'd be surprised at how much of a difference it makes compared to
direct mounting every single attachment though – it really is a big
quality of life increase.
Mechanical Quick Couplers
Mechanical quick couplers rely on manual force and physical locking
mechanisms to secure attachments. These couplers typically involve
a pinning system, where pins securely connect the attachment to the
coupler. Mechanical quick couplers can either be universal or
dedicated, with the former being more adaptable to different
attachments.
Some advantages of mechanical quick couplers include:

Hydraulic Quick Couplers
Hydraulic quick couplers, as the name suggests, use hydraulic power
to secure attachments to the excavator. Hydraulic couplers can also
be universal or dedicated, offering the same versatility in
attachment compatibility. These couplers are designed to provide a
more convenient and efficient method of changing attachments
compared to their mechanical counterparts.
Advantages of hydraulic quick couplers include:
Fast and easy attachment changes from within the cab
Increased safety due to reduced manual handling
Ability to handle high-pressure applications, as seen in this

Tilting Quick Couplers
These are newer on the market, but companies are starting to make
Tilting Quick Couplers. These are very expensive, but drastically
increase efficiency by not having to reposition your machine to
change angles or digging directions.
All Tilting Quick Couplers must be, by definition, Hydraulic quick
couplers as well — since the tilt functionality operates off of
hydraulic pressure. So think of Tilting quick couplers as an
upgrade to a hydraulic quick coupler.
